Some aren’t aware of the difference between wood carved and wood burned signs, and on this Thanksgiving Day, I’m going to quickly explain the difference so I can go continue cooking :) .

Wood carved signs – a tool is used to scrape out (carve) the wood.  Some old school people use a chisel, and some newer school people actually use a power tool, such as a Dremel.  These can turn out really neat – I’m going to be doing some research to find some really unique ones.  If you have any or know of any, tweet them to me and I’ll post them and link to you!

Wood burned signs – a wood-burning tool is used to burn the wood.  No tool is used to carve anything, in most cases. The heat of the metal part of the wood-burning tool burns the wood, and leaves “your mark”.  I’ll also be posting some examples soon of some really unique wood burned signs.  If you have any or know of any, tweet them to me and I’ll post them and link to you as well!

Some people combine the two techniques, and no one is better than the other.  Each has their own distinct advantages, and both create some pretty cool signs!
