Apartment Living: Create a Country Atmosphere No Matter Where You Live

Typically, apartments tend to be in the city. If you long for the warm and cozy atmosphere of a country home yet live in an apartment, this is something you can certainly have. Whether the city you live in is big or small, you don’t have to give up a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere in your home. You want to walk in the door to your home and feel like you’ve been transported to the country, recalling the scent of wildflowers and how fresh air can seem to flow through every fiber of your being. Here are some tips on how to turn you blank, expressionless apartment into a place you can call home.

Start with the Furniture

When you’re decorating in a country-style décor, the more wood, the better. Look around for a sofa, kitchen table, and other large furnishings crafted from natural-looking wood such as knotty pine. Country furnishings don’t have to cost a fortune, as you may be able to find used furniture at flea markets or online.

Add some wood end tables as well. Once you arrange the tables, casually drape lace doilies or checked-pattern cloths over them. Place jar candles on the table to give the look a country appeal. Choose scents like cinnamon, vanilla, or apple pie.

Decorate the Walls for Added Interest and Depth

Bare walls typically appear very stark and blank, giving the entire room a cold feel. Warm up those walls by hanging some rural or black-and-white prints framed in wood. Or create a great focal point for the room by hanging a country-style quilt alone on a large wall.

Don’t Forget the Kitchen!

Continue with the natural or knotty pine wood theme in your kitchen with a country table—if you have the space, of course. Top the table off with a checkered or lace cloth for a continuous country feel. Antique-looking bar stools at the counter are another great option if there just any room for a table. You can also enhance the country atmosphere with wildflower arrangements, wooden bowls and spoons, and even some country candles. You might also add a wicker centerpiece to the table or a wooden spice rack for the countertop.

Add Accessories and Accents You Love

The primary things to remember in a country-style décor are plenty of natural, exposed, or antique-looking wood, and simply patterned cloths for the tables. Also don’t forget to get a little of your unique personality into the mix by adding those accessories and accents you truly love. Don’t forget about other classic country touches, such as wicker, quilts, natural flowers, country-style candles, and bookcases filled with old or leather-bound books.

Apartments often feel totally uninviting, appearing more or less to be the same. By warming up your living space, you can make it your own. By creating a style you love, you will welcome coming home after a hard day’s work. With a country décor, your home will feel comfortable, cozy, and truly welcoming. Create a décor in your apartment that you will love coming home to!
