We’re very excited to present Kimo’s Korner, our latest wood burned sign!  We were really excited to see how this sign turned out.  It was really a fun one to work on, and the customer was a delight to work with as well.

We used a couple different techniques in creating this sign, which we will be posting about later.  It took a little bit more time, but made the lines much more precise and defined, which was very important when using the font that we did (Brush Script Bold).

The process:

We used a custom Brush Script Bold font, then used our usual wood burning kit to etch in the design.  The customer selected this font choice, and I think it was a really great decision.  The bold, defined font really stands out on this piece of wood.

This particular design took a little longer to burn into the wood because the font was a bit wider and bolder than what we have usually done in the past (it still turned out wonderfully).  After that, we “aged” it a little bit with our secret recipe (we will not disclose our “secret aging recipe” :) , then finished it with a light, golden oak stain.

The finished product:

Custom wood burned sign - Kimo's Korner

Materials used:

  • Wood burning kit
  • Golden oak stain
  • Secret aging tools
  • Patience and some time

How to Find a Custom Wooden Sign

The internet has allowed for many things – and finding a custom wooden sign is one of them.  Back in the old days, you would have to go scour garage sales and flea markets, or just “know a guy” that makes custom wooden signs.  Now?  There are a ton of ways to find a custom wooden sign!

Here are the top four ways:

Ebay or Amazon:  Of course, you can find many things on each of these sites.  The custom factor here is limited though.  After a few searches, I was able to find a few custom wooden signs on eBay and Amazon, but neither site is really built for that.

Google it!  Or Bing it if you prefer… Simply searching for a website that makes custom wooden signs (hint: you are already here…) is the number one way to find what you are looking for.  Try these queries:  custom wooden signs, personalized wood signs, wood burned signs, custom wood burned signs.  Try mixing all of those together – eventually you should be able to find some site that has exactly what you want!

Etsy:  A site that has grown incrementally in the recent future is Etsy.  Handmade gifts at a reasonable cost (we run our store out of Etsy!).  You can search for the aforementioned keywords at Etsy as well, or just browse around for what you are looking for.  They have a ton of gifts, or gift ideas if you would rather make your own.  Which brings me to…

Make your own!  You can do it!  There are tons of resources out there to make your own signs.  You can find some wood burning patterns for signs, and depending on the complexity of the sign, you could do it yourself.

However, be prepared to exercise your patience – especially if you are making wood burned signs.  Many of the techniques – woodburning, painting, engraving – are very time consuming.  So, if you do not want to make your own, just have someone else make it for you (like Woodburnd!).
